Overview of the Driving Test Centre in Ballina

On a couple of fronts Ballina is a pretty good place to sit the RSA driving test. The waiting time averages 11 weeks and the longest possible wait is currently 15. This is pretty much the lowest in the country. The pass rate of almost 60% is also pretty good.

You can apply for your driving test in Ballina Driving Test Centre on the RSA website.

Ballina Driving Test Routes

That’s not to say it’s all plain sailing! Entry and exit into, and out of Ballina test centre can be tricky at the best of times. A combination of a blind bend and a steep hill make repeated practise of this obligatory. A mere 500 metres after exiting the test centre is a large Iarnrod Eireann depot and a level crossing. Although the level crossing isn’t often used there are always large trucks entering and exiting bringing all the dangers associated with large vehicles manouvering. There are four of the now ubiquitous mini roundabouts in the town. However with a little practise they shouldn’t pose many problems to a competent driver. Many candidates hopes have been dashed at the right turn from the Sligo road onto Bunree. There is a very small right turn lane that fits at most three cars. Do not be tempted to clear the main carriageway and use the hatched markings, wait till there is space for you in the clearly marked lane. There are only 3 sets of traffic lights. Some remain green only for a brief period. Adequate progress is key at these junctions. You also need to be wary of various pedestrian crossings dotted around the town and be especially wary of jay-walkers, particularly on Market Square.

Ballina is a nice place to do your RSA driving test, however there are pitfalls for the unwary and unprepared. Make sure you are well prepared, book now for pretest lessons that are second to none and a car that’s sure to help you sail through the test.
